REHEARSALS

Tamarisk is a small, supportive and very friendly choir.

Since the pandemic we have been practising in members' homes. However by early 2023 we hope to have a new, regular external venue for our daytime practices to accomodate new members with small children.

We currently alternate a daytime rehearsal (Thursday 1.45 - 2.45pm) with an evening rehearsal (Thursday 7.30 - 8.30pm) to accomodate members who have returned to work.

Our members have an interest in singing but that’s all. Most can’t read music and no-one had to audition to join. However we manage to sing a large repertoire of songs in close three-part harmony and from memory. Many people – audience members and choir members – are amazed at what we manage to achieve with one rehearsal a week. You might be too!

All our songs are pitched lower than most choir music making them easier to sing and making it easier to achieve a natural sounding tone. All music is provided free of charge.

Tamarisk is a parents’ choir and membership is open to anyone who is a parent of a school-age child - primary or secondary - or younger. You don’t have to bring your children to rehearsals but you are welcome to. Many of our children have started school but we want to encourage parents with pre-school children as this was the reason we started Tamarisk.

If you are a parent of a pre-school child membership is completely free (even if you don’t bring your child to rehearsals). If all your children are at school there is an annual sub of £25 to cover hiring the room where we rehearse. This works out at less than 50 pence a week. You can come as many times as you like before deciding whether to join or not.
