Tamarisk is a singing group set up, run by and made up of parents of young children in the Burton-on-Trent area.
When and where do you meet?
We meet once a week on Thursdays 1.45pm - 2.45pm at Winshill Children's Centre. Everyone is welcome to bring their children along. The children play while the parents sing.
Do I have to pay? Do I have to be able to read music?
The sessions are completely free and you don't have to be able to read music – just enjoy singing. Printed music is available for those who want it. A cd is also provided with all the tunes on it.
What sort of music do you perform?
We started two years ago and over the past year our repertoire has expanded from pop tunes to include gospel and folk material which we have performed in venues ranging from local cafe bars to Sudbury Hall and Derby Cathedral. At Christmas we raised £90 for charity in an hour performing in the Octagon Shopping Centre in Burton.
